Since July 10, 1892

A long line of Sunday mornings

Czech Protestant immigrants started settling east of town in the early 1880s. On July 10, 1892 they organized a congregation and called the Rev. Adolph Chlumsky as their pastor. He came in by train from Brenham to serve them for the next eighteen years.

On December 29, 1903 the Evangelical Unity of the Czech-Moravian Brethren in North America was organized inside these walls. The denomination is still active, with congregations across Texas. The Texas Historical Marker on the front of the church tells the short version.

A church with roots in Bohemia
and a home in Texas.

Granger Brethren is the founding congregation of the Evangelical Unity of the Czech-Moravian Brethren in North America, known today as the Texas Unity of the Brethren. It was organized inside these walls on December 29, 1903. Our tradition goes back to the Jednota bratrská in 1457 Bohemia, and to Jan Hus before that.
